This is the 2nd time I’ve raced the Muckmedden Forfar Funduro. The first time was in 2014, and it was only my second ever race, where I manged to get a very unexpected 2nd place. Unfortunately I missed the 2015 race as it clashed with Fox Hunt. However this year I was back with Progression Bikes support, and ready to reclaim my position.
This is by far one of my favorite events. Not because its impressive, or technical, but because it’s downright fun. It’s a relatively straight forward 17km race, with 10 timed stages and with short climbs you get a lot of race time for your money. The stages are a mixture of forest single track, quarry jumps, and fast trails zipping between trees, which is all to reminiscent of a Star Wars hyperdrive. It all finishes with a duel slalom stage in to the event camp. Although it is only the time which counts towards your final position you can’t help but get caught up in the excitement of racing against the person next to you.
The weather was perfect for the day, the sunshine adding to everyone’s high spirits, and after I handed my timing dibber back in there was plenty of time for some on-site stone fired pizza whilst I waited for the other riders to roll in.
When it came to the results we had a 100% success rate for the Progression Bike Riders. with 2nd places for Frankie Berk and Neil Whittet and 1st places for Charlotte Higgins and Myself. This is my first ever first, and I really hope its not the last.
